Last year, most courses had to go online immediately without much buffer time. Given the constraints of time, we conducted interviews and consultation sessions with faculty to understand their worries about teaching online. They were afraid of using learning management systems.
To reduce their anxieties and make online courses scalable, we designed different variations of course website templates where faculty of different digital literacy levels were able to quickly customize their contents. Over 100 faculty were able to use these templates to put their courses online efficiently.
I have fully designed and developed over 30 courses on Canvas for faculty with a wide range of learning requirements, based on an initial needs analysis and build module overview pages. During the design process, I have designed educational materials, brochures and interactive courses to help engage the students in different courses.
Because of IP concern, I can't display all the course contents in my portfolio. Please feel free to reach out to me for further materials and course contents.
It is important to set-up an informative, organized and engaging homepage especially for online courses. Students need to be able to navigate each module/week easily.
For the homepage, we design welcome presentation which includes different tabs which allow students to have a basic understand of the course. To address the anxieties of faculty with different technology literacy levels, this homepage can be easily edited in Canvas.
We also display faculty's information on homepage so that students have a quick access to class information. Before the class starts, the "Getting Started" section provides a basic guideline and orientation with students.
Since different faculty has different ways of structuring their courses, we need to design the homepage based on different topics and course structures by changing HTLM, CSS and JavaScript codes.
For example, some faculty would like to use modules while some prefer to structure their course in the format of unit, class or weeks. We have to design the homepage thumbnails based on faculty's needs.
This is a non-credit program at Teachers College. This 3- week course has hybrid and asynchronous version. To engage students, I designed a welcome presentation which includes course overview, objectives, course requirements and class timeline.
PreviewWe plan to improve the prototype of LeakIn by adding more interactive elements and providing authentic tasks in which people can actively participate at their own pace. We also plan to add more customized scenarios for users aged in different groups to choose their own experiences.
In terms of lower level knowledge, we plan to expand the scope of knowledge about data privacy. For example, we will introduce the privacy protection legal mechanism and include active approaches to protect their own personal data.
Finally, if this experience is implemented in school settings, we also want to add reflective practices for students to describe how their reactions and views have evolved.
See how creative training drives results.
